Residential products

How do I choose the right light for my home?

For the exterior lighting of your home, it is necessary to take into account the decorative aspect and the functional aspect. Since Snoc luminaires are decorative luminaires, you must first choose the style that matches your residence. Each collection of luminaires has been designed to offer a host of mounting options among which you will find the one that suits your needs perfectly: wall-mounted luminaire facing up or down, suspended with a chain, on a pole or even a mounting of several luminaires on a pole. Click here to download our different catalogs. You can then choose the suitable collection and application, as well as the suitable format of the luminaire.

What length of chain is included with the pendant lights?

The standard chain length with our pendant lights is 17 centimeters (7 inches). However, it is possible to order a longer chain, at a small additional cost.

What post height should I choose?

Your pole mount fixture will illuminate a diameter on the ground that is five times the height of the pole. Depending on the power of the bulb installed, the intensity of the lighting inside this diameter will be greater or less. The luminaire will not necessarily illuminate further.

Is it better to choose an aluminum or steel post?

Aluminum does not rust and has great corrosion resistance. Since our luminaires are made of aluminum, your post, if it is also aluminum, will remain beautiful as long as your luminaires, without needing to be repainted.

To install a post, should I prefer using a Sonotube formwork tube filled with concrete or a steel pile?

The installation differs depending on whether a Sonotube formwork tube filled with concrete or a steel pile is used. Note, however, that a steel pile could make the installation unstable. In addition, if the aluminum base of the post comes into contact with the steel of the pile, there is a risk that the paint on the post will peel off. It is therefore preferable to use a concrete base for a solid and durable installation.

What diameter and depth should the Sonotube formwork tube have?

The diameter of the Sonotube formwork tube must be at least 7.6 centimeters (3 inches) larger than the stud bolt circle. As for the depth, you must determine the frost line at the location of the post and make sure that the concrete goes below the frost line.

How many digits can there be on address plates? How big are the numbers?

The number and size of the numbers on our address plaques will depend on the format of the chosen plaque. You will find this information in the product sheet for each of the address plates.

With the purchase of a low voltage address plate (12 volts), is the transformer included?

The transformer is not included with low voltage address plaques. Very often, the connections are made on the transformer of the electric bell of the front door.

Landscape products

Is it better to install a 12 volt or 120 volt landscape lighting system?

The low voltage system (12V) is much easier to install and must be connected to a transformer sold separately. For the 120V system, we recommend that an electrician install it in order to comply with electrical standards.

How many luminaires can I install on the same circuit?

If it is a 120V system, do not exceed the load supported by the circuit breaker in the electrical box. For a 12V system, the capacity of the transformer must not be exceeded. In addition, to compensate for current losses on the circuit and increase the life of the transformer, it is advisable to leave a power margin of about 10%. For example, the total wattage of all fixtures connected to a 100 watt transformer should not exceed 90 watts.

Can I install my transformer indoors?

Our transformers can be installed indoors or outdoors. However, if you decide to install your transformer indoors, choose one that does not have a photocell.

Which transformer do you recommend me?

To choose a transformer, you must first know the number of luminaires to be installed on the circuit and the wattage of each of these luminaires. The total of these watts, plus 50% for any additions, will provide you with the power needed for the transformer.

Can I plug LED and incandescent landscape lighting fixtures into the same transformer?

Our LED and incandescent landscape lighting luminaires can coexist on the same lighting system and on the same transformer. Just make sure you don't exceed the capacity of the transformer.

Which Snoc landscape lighting fixtures can be installed in water?

Snoc offers two models of submersible luminaires. These are products 0585 LV LD8 and 0586 HGST .

Why aren't my landscape lighting fixtures lighting?

1. First check whether the transformer is well connected and whether there is power at the electrical outlet.
2. Next, check if the transformer is in the “ON” position.
3. Check if the transformer overload protection circuit breaker is tripped.
4. If your transformer has a photocell, it will not work in daylight.
5. Check the connection of the main power cable at the connection block to the transformer.
6. Check light bulbs.

Why are my landscape lighting fixtures always on?

This is probably a problem with your transformer's timer programming. If your transformer is equipped with a photocell, make sure the transformer is installed in an area with sufficient light to turn off the lights during the day.

Why do my landscape lighting fixtures at the end of the circuit light less than those placed at the beginning of the circuit?

The voltage drop along the main power cable usually explains why fixtures at the end of the circuit tend to light less brightly and appear to glow less than those near the transformer. To minimize voltage drop: keep power cable as short as possible or use more than one cable, use minimum 12 gauge wire, use lower wattage bulbs, use a transformer larger than the total circuit watts.

Why does one of my landscape lighting fixtures light less than the others?

The bulb contact inside the socket is not good or the connector of the luminaire on the main cable is not installed correctly.

Why does my landscape lighting transformer's overload protection circuit breaker trip after a few minutes of operation?

The circuit is probably overloaded. Reduce the total watts on the circuit, either by removing one or more light fixtures, using less wattage bulbs, or using a more wattage transformer.

Why does my landscape lighting transformer's overload protection circuit breaker trip as soon as the system is turned on?

There is probably a short circuit at the end of the main power cable or at the connection of the luminaires on the main cable.

LED lighting

What is LED lighting?

An LED, or Light Emitting Diode, is an optoelectronic component capable of emitting light when an electric current passes through it. At SNOC, when you choose LED lighting, we install a lighting system in your luminaires that consists of a plate on which there is an integrated circuit and a variable number of LEDs. This system is an integral part of the luminaire.

Why choose an LED luminaire?

Snoc LED lighting offers several benefits:
1. No more buying and replacing light bulbs.
2. LEDs have an exceptional lifespan. After 50,000 hours, they are still operating at 70% of their initial brightness.
3. Significant reduction in electricity consumption.
4. Significant reduction in light pollution, thanks to the directional flow of the LEDs.
5. Instant ignition even at -40°C.
6. Resistance to vibration and shock. LEDs are virtually unbreakable.
7. Environmental protection. LEDs emit no measurable ultraviolet rays, generate no electromagnetic fields, contain no gases and generate very little heat.

Do LED fixtures give the same type of light as fixtures with an incandescent bulb?

The type of lighting is substantially the same. The color temperature of our LED lighting systems being 3000K, the lighting is similar to that of an incandescent bulb whose color temperature is 2800K. On the other hand, Snoc's LED lighting system is always installed at the top of the luminaire; the light is thus directed downwards, where it is needed, unlike the bulb which emits light in all directions.

What is the lifespan of the LEDs used in Snoc LED luminaires?

Our LEDs have an exceptional lifespan. After 50,000 hours, the LEDs will still operate at 70% of their original brightness.

Is there a choice of color temperature and intensity for Snoc LED fixtures?

The standard color temperature in our LED fixtures is 3000K. As for the intensity, it varies according to the application, as well as the type and format of the luminaire chosen. Refer to the description of each luminaire to find out about the possibilities.

Will the color and intensity of Snoc's LED lighting systems change over time?

The color will not change over time, and after 50,000 hours, Snoc's LED lighting system will still be at 70% of its original brightness.

How much energy do Snoc LED luminaires consume?

Electricity consumption differs depending on the LED lighting system installed in the luminaire. It can vary between 2 watts and 25 watts approximately.

Can a dimmer be used with Snoc LED fixtures?

It is possible to add a dimmer to some Snoc LED luminaires, provided that it is a dimmer designed for LED lighting, such as the Lutron DVCL-153P dimmer or an equivalent model. Our 120V luminaires equipped with the following LED systems: LD (Essentials) / LD8, LD10 and LD20 (without converter) can be used with a dimmer.

Can a timer be installed with LED fixtures?

There are no restrictions on the use of a timer with our LED fixtures.

Why does my LED light, installed on a timer, not work?

One reason could be that some timers require a minimum of 40 watts to operate.

What type of transformer can be used with 12V LED fixtures?

Our LED lighting systems are designed for use with 12V AC (alternating current) or 12V DC (direct current) transformers.

Why isn't there a ground wire supplied with my fixture?

The hardware provided to install the luminaire includes, among other things, a crosspiece and a grounding screw (MALT). The grounding is done by the crosspiece on which the ground screw is screwed, then by the nipple or the studs and the aluminum structure of the luminaire. Make sure, however, that a ground wire from the power supply is firmly attached under the ground screw supplied with our crosspiece. (Where a ground wire is supplied with the fixture, ensure that it is connected to the power supply ground wire.)

How do I connect the photocell to my pole?

1. Connect all white wires (from power supply, light fixture and photocell) together.
2. Connect the black wire of the power supply cable with the black wire of the photocell.
3. Connect the black wire from the fixture to the red wire from the photocell.

Interview

How often should I clean my light fixture?

Like any other product, light fixtures need regular maintenance. You can, for example, clean them when replacing the bulbs or every spring, after the snow has melted.

How should I clean my light fixture?

Simply by using a clean cloth and mild soap. For glasses, you can use a glass cleaner. Make sure the water drain hole is clear. Also get into the habit, when cleaning, of putting a greasy or oily substance in the screw holes on the luminaire cap, before putting the screws back in place. This will prevent the screws from getting stuck during subsequent disassembly.

What should I do if the screws holding my light fixture cap are stuck?

Start by putting on a lubricant (such as Jig-a-loo or WD-40) and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, unscrew them by going there by small strokes without forcing too much to avoid breaking them.
